JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN — September 25, 2026 — In a major milestone for community-driven climate resilience and economic self-reliance, EcoRise South Sudan has successfully executed a major grant disbursement drive targeting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees, and vulnerable women entrepreneurs operating micro-enterprises across Juba.
Implemented under the Integrated Resilience Empowerment Project (IREP), supported by the Quadrature Climate Foundation (QCF) in partnership with Cohere, this milestone initiative directly provided seed capital to nine women-led enterprise collectives, creating immediate economic opportunities for 90 families.
The micro-grants are designed to help women expand existing micro-businesses or start sustainable green enterprises, spanning vegetable aggregation, small-scale tailoring, food processing, and local trade. By pairing grant capital with financial literacy, peer mentorship, and climate-adaptive livelihood skills, ERSS is shifting the paradigm from emergency relief to sustainable self-reliance.
“True resilience is about dignity, ownership, and local leadership,” said an EcoRise South Sudan leadership representative. “When you provide displaced women with direct financial capital and trust their collective capacity, they do not just sustain their households—they transform entire community economies. We are profoundly grateful to Quadrature Climate Foundation and Cohere for believing in our community-first model.”
The initiative prioritises IDP women living in Mangala and Gorom settlements who have demonstrated extraordinary resilience despite protracted displacement, hyper-inflation, and climate-induced shocks. Over the coming months, EcoRise field officers will provide continuous on-site mentorship and financial tracking to ensure long-term business sustainability and collective growth.
